The first of my improvisationally-driven compostions. Text by Melissa Tremblay. Scored for soprano, piano, and cello. A recording was made in Jan 2006 and will hopeful surface in listenable form eventually.

 

 

 

FOR MELINDA RICE (2005)

For Melinda Rice marks the synthesis of my theoretical explorations into a comprehensive musical system which extends beyond its uses in this piece. Violinist Melinda Rice provided me with the rare opportunity to closely workshop my ideas long before the rehearsal stage. The piece combines Melinda's improvisions on a collection of written materials (each with a specific type of function or application) with multi-track recordings of the violin which create a droning "super-instrument".

OF KNOWING OTHERS (2006)

Of Knowing Others was composed for theremin and violin at the request of my friend Lorin Parker, a brilliant composer, inventor and theremin player. It elaborates on the compositional strategies of For Melinda Rice.
